A Brief background and outlook

Vishambhar Shikshan Santha, Nagpuris deeply involved from a last 2 decades in successfully continuing social work. All office bearers of VSS women with a kind heart and are focused on upliftment of under privileged women with special emphasis on educational, social and economical development to make them sustainable to live freely in the main stream. The motto of VSS” of Women, by the Women & for the Women”clearlystates. It’s farsighted vision as we can understand well the difficulties faced women. Separately VSS caters to the most neglected and unattended group of Physically handicapped, Mentally handicapped girls or women, VSS has special interesting and expertise in nurturing the Intellectual Disabled (Mentally Retarded) girls and is working with a mission to educate, train and rehabilitate them.

“In the category of Blind, Physically Handicapped, Deaf & Dumb and Intellectually Disabled and other category are some of the categories of Divyangjan. Among these, Intellectually Disabled are considered to be the most neglected category. The thought being, Physically Handicapped and other PwDs, have considerably good intellectual capacities and thinking abilitymaking them socially adaptable and manage with proper inclusive infrastructure. However, as of Pw IDs, due to undeveloped intellectual functioning which affects their cognitive abilities and behaviour the Intellectually Disabled children and their family’s facelot of difficulty. The awareness about their issues is scarce, and people have more misconceptions making their life more difficult and miserable. Out of which Intellectually Disabled girls have issues, largely different from others and more critical.

In Maharashtra, there are nearly 1500 Special Schools, But the schools which cater to only Intellectually Disabled girls arevery few. Except this challenge the number of organisation, do not come forward due to lot of difficulties.Intellectually Disabled girls after reaching age of adolescent and pubertythe situation is more critical, such a stage education and imparting a write education training is must, which is a tedious and challenging job.According to many learned people and hence son institutions like a Late. Lilatai Deshmukh Education, Training And Rehabilitation Centre ForIntellectually Disabled Girls, Nagpur are doing and hence a courageous work in bringing raise of hoped light in their life. Our Intellectual Disabled girls to be self-dependant and Self-reliant was the objective of our Sanstha.

1) Summer Camp for Special Students:-

In the year 2006 the VSS got the first-hand experience in the real sense. During Summer and number of Summer Camp are organized for which the parents and children wait eagerly, in these camps helps in exploring the hidden talents for the kids and developthe art and skills of the students. But unfortunately the ID children are never thought of and are never considered to have something such as a camp for ID kids was the unexpected thought. During summer theparents of the ID child had no alterative rather than the looking the kids the child at home as the schools are closed which among to increase in discomfort of the working parents.

To address this issuesVSS decided initiatedwith the unexpected the first and only Summer Camp for the ID children. The regular summer camp was usually is two hours of duration but after understanding the practical problem of the working parents the special summer at 10am to 5pm timing. It was the firstever the Summer Camp in Maharashtra. The hard work of all of the office bearers of VSS and staff was greatly appreciated by the parents and request were been made by the parents to Continue the same in the future, Shri Anil Kale, Social Welfare Officer, ZillaParishad, Nagpur paid a visit congratulated the staff for their efforts. Looking towards the overwhelming response to summer camp other organizations also initiated the Summer Camp the same from the next consultative year.

2) The Special School for Intellectually Disabled Girls:-

The summer camp organized by our Sanstha brought the unsaid difficulties of the ID girls. In Nagpur there are many school existing for ID students, but the Studying the difficulties faced by the students we came to know about the complexities of the ID girls and further deep study of the members of the Sanstha and detailed discussion establishing the 1st excluding the Sanstha Special School for girls was finalized. The special schoolfor girls was started in 1st week of July which was named as Late Lilatai Deshmukh Education, Training And Rehabilitation Centre ForIntellectually Disabled Girls. (Residential and Non Residential Special School). Which it probably the 1st school in the Vidarbha as well as Maharashtra. Our Special School it was recognised by the Apang Kalyan Ayuktalaya, Pune Maharashtra state Govt. is approved to have 65 Girls (40 Residential and 25 Non-Residential ID Girls) with “A” grade certification. In Maharashtra 1700 school are presently catering to the ID students, but the Special School for girls can be counted on fingertips. The school management determined.And hence even, after no support of Govt. the school was totally funded by management of VSS.

3) Vocational Training Centre for Intellectual Disabled Girls. :-

Sanstha Stressed on giving vocational education to the students, but after training the how to professionally rehabilitate the ID Girls was a big question. How with the girls, earn their livelihood in this cut throat Competition, where common educated people at finds difficult to get. Who will give employment to Our ID students? To address this issue Sanstha decided to start a workshop to rehabilitate our ID Girls which was named as “Indutai Dhoble Workshop And Rehabilitation Centre For Mentally Challenged Girls” your has approved by Apnag Kalyan Ayuktalaya, Pune Maharashtra on 60 girls (40 Residential and 20 Non-Residential Girls.)

4) Audio Video CD:-

Intellectual Disabled girls are educated & trained in 8 various areas. In which Day to Day routine activities and skills (Includes activities from morning to bed timings, brushing teeth, eating food, wearing close etc) Special Educator teaching finds it difficult to teach these skills. To make learning easy and facilitate the Student and Teacher to Audio-Video Education was made. The special Audio-Video CD was made Shri. Bajirao Jadhav, Commissioner, Apang Kalyan Ayuktalaya, Pune, Maharastra Govt was inaugurated and Shri Surendra Pawar, SWO, Zilla Parishad, Nagpur and other dignitaries launched the CD. Twenty one (21) Activity Daily Living Skills are including in the CD. CD was open for the all over Maharashtras Special children. Our Sanstha is the pioneer to start such venture. which health Associated students and teacher of not only Maharashtra but entire country which venture is a feather in a cap of the Sanstha.

5) Day Care Centre :-

Sanstha has affiliation of nearly 45 non-residential girls students including School and Workshops. The girls studying in the Sansthabelongs to the working parents Nagpur schools timings are from 11am to 5pm. Some parents has their office from 8am in the morning and are released at 7pm. are busy till late night. The parents find it so difficult to keep their children after School timing normal students have many options to of creche but there is no arrangement of ID students parents faces lots of problems to keep their children as there are issues related to safety meals and care, which are matter of great concern in this society. “Which” is quite polluted and there is a possibility of a mishap.
To attend this issue of safety and problem faced by the parents, a Day Care Centre was planned which came into reality from 16th august 2013. The Day Care Centre was inaugurated by Sarita Kaushik, Editor, ABP Maza and Chief Guest for the occasion was Abhjeet Raut, coordinator Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan and Special Guest was Shashikant Bodad, Upadhyaksha, BJP was present. The guest in their speech appreciated the novel thoughts and venture which is the need of the hours Shri. Abhijeet Raut, specially mentioned that, this was first Day Care Centre for Special Students and every Municipal zone should have such facility

6) Help Line for Divyangjan:-

The special girl’s students have wandering tendency nay times the girls are found to be moving out of home without informing. In case the ID Girls are lost, the Parents, and there teachers are have great of pressure, is the environment is not amicable and is frightening. The need was immediately addressed by launching a Sticker on “World Handicap Day” On Shikshak Sahakari Bank hall, Nagpur the sticker was inaugurated by Sau Sandhytai Gotmares, President of Zilla Parishad, Nagpur , Shri, Siddharth Gaikwad, Social Welfare Officer Zilla Parishad, Nagpur and Mr. Jaisingh Rathod, Well known Social worker in Maharashtra. Sastha printed 5000 stickers, and pasted at all prominent locations requesting the ID children who is infind any ID Children please informed nearest Police Station.

7) Felicitation of people for their extra ordinary work:-

Work of Sanstha but there are many role process whom admire and feel that they are Can be some of inspiration specially the dedication of people in the field affair ID Girls is highly appreciated. Sanstha the decided to appreciate their efforts and WHO the special program was organized. The list of programme people included shri. Umesh Warjurkar the organizes of sports day for special students. NishadBuitSSC exam qualifies, Rotary Club who takes efforts in supporting the organization. The wife and mother of 2 ID children and husband who is supporting the cause by working at very low theremuneration from 10 years were where felicitated. In this journey of Educating, training and retaliation ID Girls many people has supported, financially in cash & kind. Many respected people have visited our school and Wokingfrom our workhave promised to help in our entire future endeavour. The Support and motivation by the people have increased the positive presence on and has helped us to be strongly determined towards our work.
